Compare Trailer Wiring

Wiring
#1 Complaint from trailer owners!  Lights don't work.

Internally Grounded Frame Grounded
  • Harnesses are internally grounded - so trailer corrosion doesn't effect circuit continuity. Not grounded through trailer frame.  Both negative and positive leads are directly wired to each light from the vehicle.

  • Plugs filled with non-conductive corrosion inhibiting grease

  • Not affected by rust or wet conditions.

Grounding through trailer frame means electrical continuity is affected by rust and elements. Lighting/Wiring issues is one of the number 1 problem trailer owners experience.  These are exasperated by rust inhibiting the connections at the main grounding point and each light's ground point, which is the bolt connecting it to the trailer frame.  Electricity must run from the vehicle through the metal trailer frame and all the connections must be rust free.

Molded Wiring Harness Spaghetti Wiring
  • Molded connections between modules keep moisture and contaminants from penetrating the electrical system.

  • All modules filled with non-conductive corrosion inhibiting grease.

  • Wires are molded into a protective outer casting.

  • Main harness 14 ga. wire.

  • Harness is run inside the frame tube to protect from elements.

  • Flat four wiring has very little protective insulation which can easily be penetrated by flying road debris or worn through from vibration.

  • Some manufacturers incase the wire in split loom, but it isn't designed to protect against outdoor elements and moisture.

  • Some use conduit, but all connections made outside of piping.

  • Weak wire connections are done with crimp connectors or splice and tape.  Elements and road vibration wreak havoc with these types of connections.

  • Most wishbone harness use 18 ga. wire.

  • Run on underside of trailer. Wire is exposed to elements and road debris.
