Manufacturers can pinched every
penny with such a simple important component, all at the future cost to the
consumer. Begs the question, where else have they skimped to save
manufacturing costs? ...and at who's expense?

- Welded on.
Difficult to replace worn, broken or rusty
couplers. Manufacturer has saved themselves the cost of 2
bolts and drilling 2 holes.
- Painted. Cheap and
prone to rust and seized latching mechanism.
Accelerating the time for needed replacement.
- Note chains are also painted
and welded on. Adding to the cost and inconvenience
of replacing.
